DP Ruto in Tears After Joash Maangi the Deputy Governor of Kisii Dumped Him in Favor of Raila Odinga

Joash Maangi, the Kisii Deputy Governor and a long-time associate of Deputy President William Ruto, has endorsed Raila Odinga of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).

Maangi has previously attended gatherings hosted by Ruto's United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and stated his support for the Democratic Party (DP).

He has, however, been noticeably absent from these occasions in recent months, raising questions about whether he still interacts with the Deputy President.

He chose to attend the Azimio La Umoja National Convention on Friday, December 10, at the Kasarani Stadium, rather than the Deputy President's rallies at Nyaribari Masaba, Nyaribari Chache, Bobasi, and Itibo Markets in Kisii on Wednesday, December 8, 2021.

Raila formally launched his presidential campaign in 2022 at the Kasarani ceremony, seeking to become the country's fifth Head of State.

As much as he would have liked to promote UDA in the area, Maangi attributed his decision to rising pressure from his people, according to Standard Digital.

"I've always been a part of ODM." "You understand what it means to be a member of the ODM in the Kisii area," the Deputy Governor stated.

Maangi has made it clear that he wants to succeed Governor James Ongwae in the 2018 elections.

The pair was initially elected in 2013 and were re-elected in 2017 on an ODM platform.

He graduated from the University of Nairobi with a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) and a Post Graduate Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law.

He began his legal career in Kenya in 1991 as a law student at Mugambi & Ali Advocates. He eventually established Maangi & Company Advocates, where he served as a main partner until 1997, when he moved to the United States.
