EPL Assessment: Winner, Fourth Best and Relegation

EPL Assessment: Winner, Fourth Best and Relegation

With the English Premier League (EPL) season expected to end on Sunday, the EPL Assessment: Winner league standings paint a picture of a fierce battle in the final matches.

So far, each team has played 37 matches out of all 38 and now both teams are expected to take to the field on Sunday starting at 6pm in a ten-match clash that will determine who will be crowned, the full four best and the relegation list.

In the standings of the league table, Manchester City lead by 90 points, just one point above Liverpool. That is a great hope for Pep Guardiola’s side to be able to defend their title and be crowned winners for the fourth time in five consecutive seasons.

When they end the season with a home game against Aston Villa, all they need from Man City is a victory, or any result similar to Liverpool’s, to defend the title. But if they draw or lose the match, then they can win the title as long as Liverpool do not win their match.

And Liverpool, under the tutelage of Jurgen Klopp, also still have a chance to carry the league but on a whole new set of conditions. First, they must win their last match at home against the Wolves, as any other result could not help them. Second, they must make a dirty prayer against Man City in order to lose or draw against Aston Villa.

In the race for the top four teams expected to compete in the Champions League next season, apart from Man City and Liverpool, Chelsea have also secured a ticket ready to finish third, with the exception of losing their last match at home against Watford and Tottenham also have a surprise victory of at least 18 goals against Norwich, with Chelsea finishing fourth.

Who between Tottenham and Arsenal will be in the top four? In fourth place now, Tottenham only need to beat Norwich to stay there. And Arsenal, who are fifth in the table by two points, will have to punish Everton and at the same time be in the running for Tottenham. Should Tottenham draw, Arsenal could finish fourth if they beat Everton 15 goals to nil.

Most likely Arsenal and Manchester United will be in the same WhatsApp group, for those who will participate in the Europa League next season.

Finally, the Norwich and Watford teams have already secured relegation next season as they will either finish in the last two places. One between Leeds and Burnley is expected to join the two and head into the Championship sub-league. Leeds are the most vulnerable and will need to get better results than Burnley in order to avoid that relegation ax.
