Martha Karua’s Political Journey

Martha Karua’s political journey took off in 1991 when she ran for the Gichugu parliamentary seat, a position she held until 2013. Later in 2013, Karua ran for the presidency and resigned in vain after President Uhuru Kenyatta took office.

Karua then ran for the governorship of Kirinyaga and was ousted by current Governor Anne Waiguru. in that election Karua got 122,091 votes while Waiguru got 161,373 votes.

Previously, Karua held several government positions, where from 1981 to 1987, he was a judge in the Makadara, Nakuru and Kibera courts.

From 2003 to 2005 Karua was appointed Minister of Water and Irrigation, before being transferred to the Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, between 2005 and 2009.

The Gichugu lawyer founded Martha Karua and Co. Advocates in 1987.

Karua is best known for his stance, especially in national parliamentary debates.
