Parents disrupt classes at Vuma Primary School in Kwale County

Academic activities at Vuma Primary School in Kilifi County were disrupted after parents removed their children from the school complaining of air pollution and noise caused by stone-throwing activities.

The head teacher of the school Ms. Mwanaisha Tabwara said that stone-crushing activities carried out by the Mombasa Cement cement company are causing health problems among 800 students at the school.

He said six out of ten students miss classes in every class every day due to respiratory problems caused by dust.

Tabwara revealed that efforts to get the actors to work at night were unsuccessful, forcing parents to remove their children from the school.

The school board chairman Kazungu Wanje said he had written to the management of the Mombasa Cement cement company demanding a reorganization of their working hours but to no avail.

However a representative of the company Teddy Joshua said that the company has been handling all complaints from the school properly.
