The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has published the names of 38 independent candidates. The commission has also approved 74 independent governors.

Kenya will have a historic ballot paper in the August 9 general election, after the IEBC approved the 30 independent presidential candidates as independent candidates.

Among those on the list are well-known Kigame gospel singer Nazlin Omar and Jeremiah Nyagah.

In an issue of the Government Gazette dated 13 March 2022, the IEBC Commission noted that all candidates had submitted their marks to facilitate their identification on General Election Day.

Nandi County will have the longest ballot paper for governor, with seven independent candidates approved, followed by Nairobi County with six independent candidates, Meru, Kisumu, Trans Nzoia and Nakuru with five independent candidates, with Kiambu, Baringo and Taita Taveta with three independent candidates each.

The commission also published in the state gazette the names of 95 female candidates for the county women’s representation in the National Assembly, with 748 people approved to run for 290 parliamentary seats as independent candidates.
